In our “new modern age,” a lot of people raise the question
as to why people should even get married. There are—despite what any number of
blogs or essays will tell you—benefits to be found. Some of these seem like no-brainers, but
hey—sometimes people forget the joys of wedded bliss.
• Companionship: Being married provides the immediate
companionship of conversation. Even with hectic work schedules and busy nights,
it’s still a good thing.
• Social-life: Being part of a married couple can increase
your social circle. Sure, there’s a stigma that married couples are boring to
be around—not true. Getting together for double dates with another married
couple is just as much fun as it was in high school.
• Emergency and Financial Benefits: Let’s not forget the
more mercenary perks to being married. Tax laws generally act in favor of
married couples, as do inheritance procedures. In the unfortunate event of an
accident, you’re able to receive the benefits and make medical decisions you
wouldn’t be allowed to make if you were simply domestic partners.
• Live Longer: There are correlations between longevity and
being married. Precisely why isn’t completely understood, but some factors
include the tendency of married people to take fewer physical risks. Better
habits (especially for men) as far as health goes is another factor – consider
the single guy who ignores a health problem. Then consider the married man who
goes to the doctor, either because of a duty and responsibility to remain
healthy for his wife and children or because he wife makes him go… (and thank you, honey, for being right about
that thing).
